Day of the Dead Benefit Cocktail Party for Animal Rescue NYC

Event Description
Care for the animals? Then bring your wooden skull masks, eat and dance! Celebra el Dia de Los Muertos en Mayahuel.
“Mayahuel is proud to announce a “Day of the Dead” benefit cocktail party for Animal Rescue NYC.
More than 500 years ago, when the Spanish conquistadors landed in what is now Mexico, they encountered natives practicing a ritual that seemed to mock death. But looks are deceiving, for while they are a lively affairs, Dia del Los Muertos celebrations are for remembrance of and homage to those who have passed. Tradition dictates that a sugar skull with the names of the deceased written on the confection’s forehead be eaten by relatives and friends, gravesites are turned into picnic celebrations, and elaborate alters are made. In order to incorporate the native tradition with Christianity, the Spainairds moved the celebrations to coincide with All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day (Nov. 1 and 2).
Benefiting Animal Rescue NYC (Social Tees), Mayahuel will bring Day of the Dead to the East Village by erecting an altar, courtesy of East Village local Love Shine, and constructing a “Sugar Skull Station” where guests will be able to write the names of people (or pets) who have passed. To fuel the celebratory festivities and keep with tradition, antojitos and tequila will flow freely throughout the night.
Tequila will be provided courtesy of Partida Tequila, an authentic estate-grown ultra-premium tequila, made from 100% blue agave in the heart of Mexico’s historic Tequila region, Amatitán. The Partida Estate produces four distinctive Tequilas: Blanco (not aged), Reposado (aged six months), Añejo (aged 18 months) and the Extra Añejo Elegante® (aged 36 months).
Guests are encouraged to wear wooden skull masks (calacas) and dance in honor of the deceased.
The party, priced at $50/head, features an entirely new appetizer menu and open Partida tequila bar.
